Whenever I hear this song from Citizen Kane, I always wonder if Jack has ever thought about how it could so easily apply to him. It pretty much exactly describes him. The last line isn't quite true yet, but could it happen within his lifetime? Hopefully we'll all stick around to find out.

Happy Jack's born-on day, y'all!

It's too bad they didn't start on this sooner (it looks like they got 153 submissions):

Looks like Jack's having a pretty fantastic birthday, based on what's popping up on Facebook.

From Third Man Records:

From Daru:

The sheer happiness in that photo of him and Daru is so beautiful.

Lucky guy he is!!

I remember when he was 27... isn't that the year he got into the car wreck? I didn't want him to join the "27 club" !

Happy late birthday to Jack. I knew it was his birthday today, then it escaped me for a while. I just happen to be watching the Coachella performance tonight without even realizing what I was doing. Good times.

That's a big... uh, cake  :)

I can't stop looking at that picture of him and Daru. He looks excited and happy like a little kid. Makes me smile so much.

Yes, every once in a while there are these childlike joy photos of Jack that are so infectious. like that Rolling Stone cover with Mick and Keith where he's positively beaming.

That really is the best word to describe his smile--  "infectious".

And being able to feel childlike joy for things-- whether it's a birthday baseball game, hanging out with people who inspire you, or appreciating someone else's joy. Or stopping to admire a beautiful flower, or being moved by music or any fucking thing whatever--  is seriously the secret to making it through life.

also just so you know a third man worker told me when they threw the baseball party for Jack it was a surprise and when they showed him he cried because he was so touched

From some tumblr blog. Who knows if it's true, but if it is, then awww  :)

Happy belated birthday to this guy. He's pretty awesome.

Yeah, he looked a little flushed in that pic with Daru that was posted earlier.

It was apparently damned hot in Nashville that day, so the flushed-ness could've also been from the heat. But the crying surprises me not at all.  Jack doesn't seem to be afraid to show his emotions that way, which is one of the things I very much admire about him.  Emotional honesty is an underrated thing that's too often criticized as "moodiness".

Well, it's better than a constant state of ironic detachment, at any rate.
