Olivia is beautiful I just haven't been able to get into her vocally. I will buy the album and hope she proves me wrong. I like the sound of the third song you can preview. It does seem jack has gone out of his way to include her in tmr recordings. Hopefully he knows something I don't.

USD NOT ACCEPTED: OLIVIA JEAN'S DEVIL'S NIGHT TICKETS

Posted by Third Man on 8 September 2014

It's been four years since we last invited the prince of
darkness to take over Third Man headquarters, but a certain October record
release has us feeling rather bloodthirsty...

Announcing Olivia Jean's Record Release Party,
otherwise known as DEVIL'S NIGHT, to be held in the blue room October
30th. We plan to delight the demonic and spook the suspicious with more details
in the coming weeks, but for now know that we are brewing up quite a special
night. For those of you whose interest has already been piqued, there is one
way and one way only for you to get a ticket before we release them to the
masses, and that is by paying WITH YOUR BLOOD.

On October 13th, The Red Cross will be at Third Man Records

collecting your payments-by-the-pint. Each offering will be acknowledged with a
gift of 2 tickets to Devil's Night as well as the guarantee of 1 limited
edition version of Olivia
Jean's Bathtub Love Killings
, officially released the next
day, October 14th. If you are unable to donate for some reason, you are more
than welcome to bring someone who can in your place.

Oh, this interests you!? What a wretched bunch you are... Send
an email toblood@thirdmanrecords.com
 with
your full name, address and phone number, and we
will be in touch (in the order messages are received) with instructions as to
how to make an appointment IF we can accommodate you.
Space is VERY limited. No walk-in appointments available.

For those of you who are a bit squeamish, pull yourselves
together: regular tickets will be made available using normal currency closer
to the date of the show (with a portion of proceeds set to be donated to the
Red Cross) and limited edition records will be sold at future events, to be
announced.

When I was in line for that Vancouver (well, Burnaby) show, I mentioned that most of the folks at the Little Room weren't impressed with Olivia Jean (I have no opinion on her one way or another, as I haven't yet bothered to sample her work), and they were like, "Whaaaaaaaaaaat?  She's really good."

As previously stated, I have no opinion on this.  Just thought it might be interesting to point out.

Didn't know she did the guitar part on I'm Shakin'....I just assumed it was Jack.  Sounded fine to me in the context of the song.

To my recollection, she didn't play the guitar solo on I'm Shakin' or any of the other songs on Blunderbuss.  Jack played all the solos and she just played the rhythm parts.

Ah, I see.  It's weird how the liner notes sometimes leave out pertinent details.  Like, on Icky Thump, they make no mention of the bagpipes in the title track (only on Prickly and St. Andrew), but a lot of people insist that was the instrument used there.

i thought that was a synth of some sort?

It's great that they're doing a blood drive for tickets, but the first Devil's Night was a terrible experience and they'd probably have to pay me to get me to go back.

Edited for autocorrect fail.

why was it terrible? but yeah, a Halloween blood drive is actually really cool and clever! if i lived anywhere near Nashville, i suppose i'd have to consider going. not that i mind too much 'cause i get to see Queens of the Stone Age that night at my state fair of all places.  B)

As did I, but I've heard folks here stating that it was a bagpipe, and apparently Jack said it somewhere as well.  I remain a bit confused on that issue.

Anyways...off-topic.

I've never heard Jack state that it was bagpipes on Icky Thump. When I originally heard the song, I thought it was, but after many other listens I can hear it as keys.

i remember jack talking about a synth that can only play one note a time which was used on Icky Thump.

^ right, a 1946 Univox or something. I know that's a sham, it's really a 1990 Muppet Babies keyboard.

I'm not allowed to give blood to the Red Cross, so it's great they allow you to bring a substitute. That's more than my employer ever did - if you didn't give blood for the drive you just went into the category of people who "wouldn't" give blood.

I don't have a minion who could donate on my behalf though.

what rubbish! Huge difference between not being allowed and not wanting to. I have not been allowed to donate ever since they heard some exotic rhythm with my heart. It upset me because I was happy that I could be of help.
