This was the only show I faithfully watched on t.v. in a long time. At first I was watching it just because of the zombie element but they really did a good job making it more than just a gory mess. Albeit I did get my gore fix it surprised me that it was much more suspenseful and dramatic. It's gonna' be a tough wait for the new episodes, but as I read through this thread it turns out there's books or comics? Gotta check that out.

The Walking Dead is adapted from the ongoing comic book series which started in 2003. You can get the graphic novels at your local comic store or online here.

i particularly love when the film adaptation tries to mimic the comic. that light and door opening just blew me away. that sort of thing always does. i'm still babbling about it!!!

Yes that was a great scene, it really captures the essence of the comic. You can see a cool pic of it here.

"The show ends with a dramatic door-opening that might as well have been to a spaceship (one of the few moments that remind you of the show’s comic-book origins).
At some point during almost every episode I’ve been reminded of Lost—the survivors, the others, the camp, the infighting—but never moreso than when we meet the lone CDC scientist in his bunker. Like Desmond pushing his button, Jenner has been on his own, trying to save the world

I'm thinking Merle will come back as The Governor. That would be cool!

The Walking Dead Director Frank Darabont stated with a grin on his face:
"I can't wait to get to Michonne and The Governor. I can't wait to get to those characters. I love those characters"

It's cool to see so many people enjoying this show. I've been reading the book since it came out in 2004. I again recommend picking up the books. If you like the show you will love the books. And if you enjoy the show now then get ready for a great ride cause you haven't seen anything yet!

The Walking Dead is an amazing black and white comic book written by Robert Kirkman. I highly suggest picking up the graphic novels. It will definitely enhance your enjoyment of the great new show.
