There are certain things that creative people share in common, and lately a chat with the artist Doug Aitken seems to be one of them. Aitken’s 2006 book, “Broken Screen,” featured interviews with 26 artists, including Robert Altman and Rem Koolhaas. Now, with his latest video project, “Patterns & Repetitions,” the artist sits down with a new cast in an attempt to put the pieces of the creative puzzle back together again. Each week, The Moment will feature a different segment: Mike Kelley talking about the Motor City; Jacques Herzog on instinct and architecture; Jack White (above) imagining Michelangelo as a modern-day blogger. But don’t be fooled by the coffee mugs and the California sunshine. Aitken doesn’t do anything casually. The subtext of the conversations is nothing less than the future of art itself.

(My personal view is no, Michelangelo wouldn't be pursued by paparazzi, RAPHAEL would be pursed by paparrazzi while Michelangelo sat in his studio and seethed--judging by what I've read, anyway!)

You know they had to talk for longer than three minutes. I want the rest.

I like the way Jack pronounces Michelangelo and De Stijl. He's so American. You can take the boy out of Detroit, but you can't take Detroit out of the boy!

Well you didn't miss anything, but I sure wish I had. Haha. Hopefully, Third Man will inform us when he makes his appearance. I hope he hasn't already.
