Posts I've Made

This album doesn't bother me at all. It's out of nowhere and half of it is experimental/spoken word, but I'm completely fine with it. Even though I'm not in love with a lot of the tracks, I keep listening. It's interesting and it's very unique. Also, there are some true highlights here in my opinion.

Most people will look at this release and think that Over and Over and Over is the saving grace of the bunch. To me, that's the reminder of the wrong direction Jack's music has taken. I do like parts of Blunderbuss and Lazaretto but overall I think the full band and complex arrangements/production takes away from Jack's songs. Just listen to Dead Leaves on White Blood Cells and then compare to how he's pulled it off live with his new band. It waters it down. I like Over and Over and Over but i think the recording really takes away from what it could have been. That could also be said about his last two solo albums in my opinion. With The White Stripes it was just him tearing it up over a simple drum beat. In The Raconteurs it was him and three other guys, just a simple band structure. Not a fan of the circus that goes on in his new recordings/live shows.

I will say though, Jack shouldn't make more albums like this. Trying something new, no problem, but if he ditches traditional songwriting for this (I'm sure he won't) his fan base is going to lose interest.

I don't like either album cover. The vault version looks like a heavy metal band mixed with phantom of the opera.

High hopes for the album, what we've heard sounds unique.

Glad he's trying something new. His solo albums have been so dull compared to his finest work. That being said, not in love with either song we just got. They aren't bad, but in 2003 we could have gotten Seven Nation Army backed with album track You've Got her In Your Pocket. There is a difference.

I hope this album recaptures that Jack White magic that I haven't heard in a while. His solo albums have been alright, but then I listen to Elephant and really, really remember why I loved his music in the first place.

Brendan seems to have new material coming soon. His website got an update and he posted a video to his Facebook with a snippet of what appears to be a new song.

New song!
