I just got Devo's first album and it's fantastic. All the songs are just so wacked out it's really refreshing. It's a hard call, but I would say that Mongoloid is my favorite.

So what do other people think of Devo? I'm sure a lot a people just know them as "the Whip It band", but they're far from a one-hit wonder.

Discuss.

I have always liked Devo. Excellent neo-nerd pop. It always irritated me that they got labled a novelty act/ one hit wonder. They did some cool stuuf that was waaaayy ahead of their time.

I used to have 3 of their albums, but all I can remember now is Freedom of Choice, Whip It, and Peekaboo!
Also some of my friends and I dressing as them on Halloween one year.
Seemed like a good idea at the time.

My dad used to jam with some of the guys when they still lived in the Kent/Akron OH area. They asked him to come to california with them to be their guitar player, but he declined.

I saw them on Square Pegs on the TV Land a while ago. It was pretty damn cool.

Yes, very catchy stuff. Nirvana covered Devo's "Turnaround" on the "Hormoaning" CD (Japanese import of 1990 Peel Session).

I adore Devo. They were one of the only true revolutionaries of their time.

devo has like a gazillion albums, with lots of crossover stuff. you should probably pick up the two most well known records first; Are We Not Men and Freedom of Choice.

I remeber when my dad played Devo for me the first time. I was raised on rock and blues, and then out of nowhere came Devo. I couldnt believe what was going on at all. From there it was Talking Heads, and it left me with an appreciation for bands that did their own thing now(Radio 4, Liars, even the Dirtbombs to a certain extent). Its so refreshing when a band just decides to do there own thing, regardless of what is going on around them.
