Go check-out their store. For $25 one can get a deck of the dead weather cards. Limited to 500 decks. I ordered. Anyone else?

Remember when Jack used to put out good music instead of absurd tchotchkes...

...because I almost don't.

I love that LJ is the Joker, but otherwise I think I agree with Screwdriven.

Calling them absurd might be pushing it, but it does seem as if there's suddenly a very big focus on merchandise and artifacts. I know it's Third Man Records and Novelties, but I can't help but hope they get this sort of stuff out of their system fairly soon. And of course it could be said that Jack's putting out all sorts of good music in terms of the artists he's producing these days, but I'm jonesin' for his music. I'm greedy, I admit it. What addict isn't?

I used to think the "novelties" bit was a joke . . .

Merchandise has been a huge part of Jack's output for about 5 years now.

Right, it was, but so was the music. Now it's just the merchandise.
And yes, he does produce other artists and occasionally collaborates, but that's not what everyone is talking about here.
Merch is overshadowing his musical activities.

I don't really have any money for these, but I love poker and have a poker set, couldn't resist, even at the price of $25 + $12.50 shipping

Are you outside of the US? There was a shipping option of $3

Well he has released music every year just in other bands. I may not care for those bands much, but his musical output hasn't decreased. So you must be referring to him not releasing White Stripes music because that's what we all want.

Not necessarily just the White Stripes. The Raconteurs album would be awesome (same level quality as Consolers of the Lonely), The Dead Weather album would be cool too (Horehound level though, not Sea of Cowards).
Some touring without a release would be great as well. Just a little less of obvious money-grabbing, I guess...

The cards look cool but I don't think I can justify spending ~$28 on a pack of cards that I'll most likely never use..

T-shirts and posters are one thing. And if a band lasts long enough and is still relevant after 10 years to start repressing vinyl in better quality, then that works too. Several bands put out LP collections that sell well and help to renew public interest. Great idea/marketing.

But come on....kilts, Russian nesting dolls, USB drives, cameras? ... and that's just for the better band (my opinion)

To his credit, he's made some cool moves in the past (triple inchophone, Raconteurs stylophone, tri-color vinyl ... others, I'm sure). But it seems like he gets in the rhythm of "Hey, is that a [jar of peanuts?]!?! .. let's put some peppermint stripes on it and sell it for $20 bucks." every once in a while and it gets really tired, really quickly.

Speaking only of the White Stripes...minimalism comes to mind, and it doesn't seem to extend to the merch stand.

I bought a deck, but I agree that a new White Stripes or Raconteurs or Dead Weather album would be a better way to spend the $25.
