yeah On the road can be tough to get into but I swear as soon as you get into it there's no way in hell you can ever go back.. I've read it like 3 or 4 times in the past year..I finished The Picture of Dorian Gray by Wilde (a fine piece of art)) and The Great Shark Hunt by Hunter Thompson. I really enjoyed both, in different ways off course. The Picture of Dorian Gray is a frightening but enlightening reading experience.
Next I'll read :
A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man and Ulysse by James Joyce
On The Road by Kerouac (I've been trying to read this one for a year)
The Naked Fest by Burroughs
and maybe, if I'm brave enough, I'll read some Dostoievski.
I just finished reading another book by Kerouac titled Orpheus Emerged, fantastic work. It's nothing like On the Road but it was still compelling. It's also really cool how he bases all the characters around people he was hanging out with at the time. So the characters are real.
I need a new book. I might try to find Dharma Bums by Kerouac next.
Edited: Oh yeah, my signature comes from On the Road... both quotes.

Read The Gambler. It should take you only a couple days. It's very short, but very good. Or try Nabakov's Despair. Again, short but extremely good. A two day read as well.and maybe, if I'm brave enough, I'll read some Dostoievski.

I try to read a number of different subjects of both fiction and non-fiction at the same time so I don't get too confussed. If I read like 2 Vonnegut books at the same time it would really confuse me. I also choose like 2 really dry and heavy books with 2 light and easy books so I can switch off if Im in a different mood.how can people read more than one book at a time? i find that story lines just get messed up and you forget stuff and it becomes a labour...

I can never read more than one book at a time either. Even when I attempt to do so, I invariably end up getting engrossed in one of them, and end up dropping the others until I'm finished.that's fair. it must just be i'm one-track-minded. or dumb.

I love Roald Dahl. He was my favorite author. May I suggest BFG, The Twits, or The Witches?I think we will read some Roald Dahl once we finish J.K Rowling.
