Blue Veins is probably the most boring Jack White song ever.

Dude, yer talkin' about my Jack White Epiphany Song.

I knew this was going to end up on a new page.

^ Agreed. I like the sound of it and appreciate it as a good song, but I never really find myself wanting to sit down and listen to all 4 minutes of it.

LISTEN TO THE LIVE VERSION!!! Particularly Bonnaroo. 'Epic' does not even begin to describe it. :D

trying to pick a top five is hard! but, here goes:
1) Consoler of the Lonely- my favorite part is where Jack's like "are you lookin' for a an accomplice?" I could listen to that over & over
2) Broken Boy Soldiers- best seen live, for sure
3) These Stones Will Shout
4) Old Enough- esp. the version with Ricky Skaggs & Ashley Monroe- I got in trouble listening to this on a plane once because my iPod volume was so loud everyone around me could hear it, too
5) The Switch & The Spur- I think this one kind of relays what the band is really all about... the balladeer, the story teller, etc
and I have to add that the video for "Steady as She Goes" is definitely on of my all-time fave's, esp. when LJ drinks that milk down at the end. I'm also particularly fond of their version of "Keep it Clean", so fun to see them do that live, the crowd goes nuts.

I'm always bummed there was never a studio version of Bang Bang. If they recorded ANY cover should've been that instead of the AWFUL rich kid blues.

I wouldn't put it in my top five, but I love their version of Crazy. Though I'll agree with Call It a Day.

to me it felt like Jack had it in his mind to do Crazy; the rest of the Racs obliged in a most unimaginative, let's-get-this-over-with-for-Jack way. if they would have Rac'd it up, instead of it being a mere strumalong, that would have been something. Look what they did with Call it a Day! ;)

I'm always bummed there was never a studio version of Bang Bang.

It's quite possible the studio version wouldn't have the power and drama of the live version. We have a studio version of Blue Veins--it doesn't even have a guitar solo! Alright it was done prior to intensive gigging where the song took on a life of it's own, similar to the white stripes and Death Letter. I was going to mention The dead weather's Will There Be Enough Water as well, but that might have been premeditated as Jack's Axe Grinder live.

but let's look at after the fact. I think the studio version of Five on the Five pales to any live version.

So maybe what we need is an official live recording of Bang Bang, in the way we got official live versions of It Ain't Easy and Headin' for the Texas Border.
