Thanks, we did a 6 song demo EP and a cover of James Brown/The Greenhornes "I'll Go Crazy". The quality on those recordings are pretty sad compared to our new single, but you can find them on our bandcamp. Just look on the right side of that page, it has our past material listed.

funny little story

back in 2003, my friends had a band called The New Mexicans

one day I was online and searched their band name, just to see if anything came up, and another band called the new mexicans popped up. being 15 and immature I e-mailed them and told them that they needed to change their name. they responded not to me, but to my friend who was the lead songwriter of the band, complaining and defending their right to use the name. my friend told them that it wasn't him or the band that felt that way, and they actually ended up sending a few friendly e-mails back and forth

eventually, the new mexicans (not my friend's band) changed their name and changed their lineup a bit

that band is now Band of Horses

Well, I'm finally sort of getting around to doing was I told myself to do almost two years ago now. Just at LEAST put together one of my songs to see what it sounds like. Any out of the 30 or so I've written.
I was going to wait until I had something I could probably record, but the other week I just said "fuck it", and did it.
None of my microphones could record instruments properly, so this was the best sound I could get.
 
So, now that I've bored you with an unnecessary amount of annoying text, here's what I came up with. Of course I wanted to do this song, it was the first one I wrote after my decision to make songwriting a hobby (So, you know when people say "This is from when I started, so it's pretty terrible"? I'm trying, yet trying not to do that).
It's called Lampshade. I recently found out one my friends was a vocalist, and he agreed to record for me. So that may be soon. The instruments were pretty improvised, kind of like a "Why don't I just chuck this in here" sort of thing.
I'm ultimately aware of the one point I completely screw up. But I wanted to do one take only on each instrument, because we all make mistakes.

So does the piano/bongo work? I'm kind of mixed on it. I do have a drum kit in the house, but every drummer I know is kind of an asshole. And also listens to death metal (Not that I have a problem, but you can probably see the conflict).

I can't believe I haven't posted here since The White Stripes broke up... As much as I like Jack's solo work and with other bands I guess I'm just not as interested as when the band was still around... I must come back to the forum and find out what happened meanwhile.

Sweet. Where do you go through? And how do you feel the sound is with multiple songs per side? Do you know the time limit per side? Basically, tell me it all.

We get our records pressed at Archer Records in Detroit. As for how it sounds: I'm no audiophile and we are a trashy garage punk band...that said, it sounds great to me. i dont think the number of songs per side should affect the sound quality. i believe the general rule of thumb for a 7" record is 4.5 minutes per side at 45rpm, 6 minutes per side at 33rpm.
